You Shouldn’t Have to Pay for a Second ADHD Diagnosis to Access Treatment
Why we accept legitimate third-party ADHD diagnoses—and focus on safe titration instead of repeat assessments.
For many people, finally getting an ADHD diagnosis is the end of a long, exhausting chapter. It often comes after months (or years) of waiting lists, misdiagnosis, burnout, and feeling like you’ve had to “prove” your own lived experience.
So when someone reaches out for treatment and is told, “We won’t help unless you pay for another full assessment,” it can feel like the door is closing again.
At ISC-CARE, we take a different approach.
Our stance: verify legitimacy, don’t duplicate
If you already have a credible ADHD diagnosis, we don’t believe you should be pushed into a repeat diagnostic assessment purely as a gateway to medication.
Instead, we:
Verify the legitimacy of your existing diagnosis documentation
Complete the necessary medical safety checks
Offer a structured pathway into medication titration and ongoing care
This isn’t about cutting corners. It’s about focusing clinical time, cost, and energy where it matters: safe prescribing, monitoring, and support.
What we mean by “verification”
Verification is not a second assessment. It’s a responsible check to ensure the diagnosis report is legitimate and clinically usable for prescribing.
That typically means we look for:
A clear diagnosis statement
Evidence the assessment was completed by an appropriately qualified clinician/service
A documented assessment process and clinical reasoning
Information we need to prescribe safely alongside your medical history
If anything is missing, we’ll tell you exactly what’s needed—no guesswork and no vague gatekeeping.
Medication titration should be structured and safe
Titration is not “one appointment and done.” It’s a structured process—often over 12 weeks—where the prescriber monitors benefits, side effects, and day-to-day functioning, with reviews typically every 28 days.
We also require an ECG within the last three months for clients starting medication, because safety isn’t optional. If your GP can’t provide an ECG promptly, we can offer this at our Liverpool clinic.
Shared care: possible, but never guaranteed
Once you are stable on medication, shared care with your NHS GP may be possible—but each GP practice can decide whether to accept it. We support shared care where appropriate and will be transparent about your options if a GP declines.
The bigger picture: access and ethics
ADHD care in the UK is under real pressure. People are stuck waiting. Families are overwhelmed. Adults are losing jobs, confidence, and stability while they try to access support.
In that reality, our approach is simple:
If you have a legitimate diagnosis, we will meet you there—and help you move forward safely.
